Car sharing is getting more and more fans in Munich. It is becoming a real alternative to owning a car. Even though the public transportation network in Munich gets you just about anywhere as well, at times you have to be more flexible, car sharing is an alternative you should consider. The cars are available at more and more pick-up stations across the City. Once you’ve registered with one of the service providers (Flinkster, Drive Now, Car2go, and more), you can look for a car via smartphone, book it, use it for as long as you need and leave it at parking spots reserved for car sharing.
Soon there might be about 1,500 more of those spots, as the City of Munich will decide whether to cut 1,500 ordinary parking spots and turn them into car sharing spots in the near future. With service providers like Car2go you can already leave the car at just about any official city parking spot, they pay for parking.
The car sharing providers within Munich that offer the most cars are: Drive Now (428), Car2Go (292), Citeecar (120) and Flinkster (104). They all have similar terms and conditions of use, as well as rates. We like Drive Now best, not only because it’s a BMW company, but also because they have the most user friendly English language site.
