Obatzda Recipe with Video

It doesn’t hurt to have some food with a bit higher contents of fat for a cheerful New Year’s Eve party at home with friends. Below is a recipe for the classic biergarten dip from GDSPE, the Bavarian Obatzda. You can smear it on bread or pretzels or use it as a dip. Of course we also have a Bavarian Chefkoch video to make it easier for you to reach Bavarian gourmet peaks.

Obatzda recipe:

Mix crème fraîche, butter (softened), cream cheese, and camembert cheese (remove rind and chop into small pieces). Season with 1 T each black pepper, ground caraway seed, sweet paprika powder, chives, salt (about 1 tsp), and Tabasco or hot pepper sauce (to taste). Add a few fried onions in butter to mixture. Combine ingredients with an added shot of wheat or dark beer until smooth (or desired consistency is reached). Serve on a plate and garnish with chives, onion rings, and a pretzel.
