There aren’t going to be many kids named Hans, Otto, Fritz and Horst at German playgrounds in the future, and even Kevin’s are becoming rare. Most of the girl’s names on the list of the most popular German new-born names in 2015 also can’t be considered traditional.
There is no official baby names list in Germany, but hobby-name researcher Knut Bielefeld from Ahrensburg near Hamburg compiles data from some 26 percent of clinics and registry offices in Germany and is often quoted in German media.
