Italian Restaurants: Acquarello

The Acquarello in posh Munich-Bogenhausen is one of the best Italian restaurants in Germany, and chef and owner Mario Gamba has many Munich celebrities and FC Bayern Munich football players as regulars at his place. Some of them live nearby. At the website of the Acquarello you can see who’s already dined there, Sting, Elton John, James Belushi, Tim Allen, Celine Dion, Mark Knopfler, etc.; but what’s really interesting about the photos is how much Chef Mario resembled Borat. Had to be said. The website is well worth a visit, as Gamba in depth explains his food and restaurant philosophy. He concludes with:

“It’s my endeavour to compose meals that live up to the highest expectations. In an atmosphere that touches the souls of my guests.”

The restaurant was opened in 1994 and holds one Michelin star since the year 2000. The seven course “Cucina del Sole” menu costs €109, the five course “Market Menu” costs €89 and you can have an excellent lunch menu at the Acquarello for €49. You can download the menu from here.
