A major factor behind Munich’s success is the city’s highly developed and highly functional urban transport system. MVG – Munich Transportation Corporation – plays a key role in this success story. Munich’s civic leaders realised long ago that a growing metropolis needs to adopt sound, long-term transport policies if it is to remain vital and attractive. This is the vision that has driven the strong commitment to developing a highly integrated underground, bus and tram public transport system.

MVG enjoys a close partnership with the Munich Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV – Munich Transport and Tariff Association). Other partners in the MVV include private companies with whom the corporation jointly operates scheduled bus services in Munich’s metropolitan area; the S-Bahn München, Munich’s urban rail system; other regional railway companies; a number of regional bus operators; and the Munich municipality. All parties work together to offer residents and visitors alike a well-designed, integrated public transport system that enjoys a ubiquitous presence in the cityscape, in the mass media and in the minds of the people.
