There are still a few of the beer garden classics of Munich left to introduce, one of the nicest ones of them is the Augustiner Schützengarten, which is located in the heart of the Bavarian capitals Sendling borough (Zielstattstr. 6). It is easy to reach from anywhere in Munich as the bus line 53 has a stop at the Zielstatt Street, the S7 stops in Mittersendling and the U3 at the Obersendling stations. From there the Schützengarten is only a five minute walk away. If you are in Munich with a car, the beer garden has its own large parking space.
The 3,000 people seating bee garden Augustiner Schützengarten is especially worth a visit on Sundays, when there is live Bavarian Blasmusik (Bavarian brass orchestra) from 2pm to 6pm and sometimes people are dancing there too. If you are lucky, you might even get to hear opera singer Gigi Pfundmair sing an opera aria or a traditional Bavarian song. There is also a nice playground for the kids, as well as a small football pitch. The beer served at the Schützengarten is the local’s favourite brand Augustiner a Mass (1l) of which costs €7.20. A grilled chicken half costs €5.80 and you can also have spare ribs for €10.80, all excellent prices for Munich. If you come as a group of over 10 people you can have a traditional Bavarian Brotzeit for €9.80 per person. Before 2013 and the change of management which happened then, the beer garden was known as Münchner Haupt'.
