For reasons unknown, Munich’s TZ has chosen to publish results of a year old survey about nationals of which country Germans like to sit next to best while at the Oktoberfest today, July 19, 2016. The survey was conducted by Emnid for the travel portal momondo.de. Participants of the survey were 1,000 Germans and it was only possible to name one nationality.
23 per cent of the surveyed said that they like to sit next to fellow Germans, followed by Italians and Australians (10 per cent each), guests from England and Switzerland were placed at places four and five (each with 7 per cent), the French came in sixth with five per cent of the votes.
Things look a bit different when only the younger German generation (aged 16-29) is in question. 16 per cent of them like it best if they are sitting next to a US citizen, followed by Australians and the English, each with 14 per cent.
If you want to be sure who you’ll be sitting next to during a visit to the 183rd instalment of the huge beer festival, which takes place from September 17 to October 3 this year, you should book your seat at one of the tents at the Theresienwiese these days. Information on how and where to do that, and everything else you need to know before visiting the Oktoberfest 2016, can be found here.
