Construction at the Oktoberfest grounds at the Theresienwiese has been going on for almost a month now. Yesterday, August 3, 2016 was a historic date for the Löwenbräu tent at the annual beer festival. The legendary old “Lööööwenbräu” roaring Lion atop the Löwenbräu tower in front of the tent has been retired after 50 years (since 1966) of dedicated service, as was the old tower.
Below is a video of the new model taking its place atop the new tower. The video comes from ganz-muenchen.de. The new lion is going to do the same job as the old one.
Some 6 million beer loving visitors are expected at the 183rd instalment of the traditional Bavarian beer festival in 2016. This year the Oktoberfest is set to take place at the Theresienwiese from Saturday, September 17 until Monday, October 3 (German Reunification Day).
